Cannot direct films which have violence: Karan Johar

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is donning producer's hat for Agneepath, a remake of his father Yash Johar's 1990 film of the same name, says he himself can not direct a script which has violence.

"All thanks to Karan (director Karan Malhotra) - he has made vengeance look beautiful. For me, if given the opportunity to direct the film, I would not have been able to....I am incapable of doing it. I have done only one moment of action in my films which was in `Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' where Amitabh Bachchan slaps Hrithik...that is the only violence I have ever done in my films," Johar told reporters here, after unveiling the first `teaser' of the film.

"We have violence in this movie again with Hrithik, but this time it is little more. It is overwhelming for Dharma Productions to have done something like this since my inception with `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. With `Agneepath' it was all Karan(Malhotra)'s vision," he said.

Malhotra, former assistant of Karan's who is making directorial debut with the film, where Hrithik is reprising Amitabh Bachchan's iconic role -- Vijay Deenanath Chauhan.

'Agneepath' will take you by surprise: Karan Johar

Those who have been expecting a frame-by-frame copy of the 1990 movie Agneepath will be surprised to see a lot of new angles and characters in the film’s remake Agneepath.

“Agneepath is not a remake because it is a tribute,” Karan Johar told reporters in Mumbai at the launch of the new version's trailer.

Though the movie stars Hrithik Roshan as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan and Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena, Johar says there are a lot of new characters in the plot.

“The basic plot of Agneepath is the same, and the character sketch of the protagonist, Vijay (Hrithik) and antagonist Kaancha Cheena (Sanjay) is the same, but we have built new angles to it, and have added new characters to the script as well,” he said.

The movie stars Priyanka Chopra as Hrithik’s love interest though her character is not similar to the one played by Madhavi in the original film. Likewise, Mithun Chakraborty’s character from the original has been chopped out in the remake.

Slated to release on January 13, the new Agneepath also has Rishi Kapoor in a negative role.

Karan Johar said that making Agneepath was an emotional decision for him as the original movie was produced by his father Yash Johar.

Watch: Trailer of Karan Johar's 'Agneepath'

The first trailer of new age remake of Agneepath was revealed on Monday. Directed by filmmaker Karan Johar's former assistant, Karan Malhotra, 'Agneepath', a remake of the 1990 Hindi film is reportedly radically different from the original film.
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's look in the much-awaited remake of 'Agneepath' was recently revealed. Johar posted a link of Agneepath's trailer and its launch ceremony on Twitter.
The original 'Agneepath', directed by Mukul Anand, starred Amitabh, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, Rohini Hattangadi and Danny Denzongpa; and was produced by Yash Johar, Karan's late father. Though the film failed commercially at the box-office, Bachchan's performance was praised. Bachchan and Chakraborty received National award for Best Actor and Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award respectively.
The remake version will see Hrithik reprising Bachchan's iconic role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, while Priyanka Chopra would be the female lead. The character essayed by Mithun Chakraborty has been totally done away in the remake and the role of villain played by Danny Denzongpa is being essayed by Dutt. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor will play another negative character. The remake version hits cinema houses on January 13, 2012.
Kapoor apparently gave a look test for the first time in 20 years for Agneepath. The release date also happens to be close to Hrithik's 38th birthday, which will fall January 10.

The makers of Hrithik Roshan starrer Agneepath, a remake of the 1990 Hindi film, insist the film is not a remake and that he pays homage to the original cast

The character being played by Rishi Kapoor was not a part of the original film. Even Priyanka and Hrithik's love story is different than the original one," Malhotra said.

'I inspired Karan to host his talk show'

Claims Simi Garewal who interviewed the filmmaker for her TV show
Simi Garewal had a special guest on her show Simi Selects India's Most Desirable, and this time it was another talk show host, filmmaker Karan Johar. The shoot took place at Film City recently.

Says Simi, "You can imagine what happens when two chat show hosts get together. The conversation would just not end.

Ten years ago, I had Karan and Kajol as guests on my earlier show. Later, Karan launched his own talk show. People perceive us as rivals, but there is nothing like that.

In fact, I was Karan's inspiration to host the show on the same channel."

The KJo episode, which will be telecast September end, has the director-producer groove to Sheila Ki Jawani and Munni Badnam Hui. "Karan is an amazing dancer.

He has got that rhythm in him. People will be shocked to see his jhatkas. He grooved to the item numbers to the hilt and bought the house down," informs Simi.

The real person
According to her, Karan has been very honest on the show.

"People will get to see the real Karan. His mother (Hiroo Johar) has stated that people think that he is always the laughing, joking person. But that is a fa ade. The real Karan is far from this."

On asked about the constant whispers about his sexual orientation, he apparently said, "I really don't care what people say. Whether homosexual, metrosexual, hetrosexual or whatever, it does not affect me."

Adds Simi, "He counts Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan as his closest friends. He has a lot of respect for Gauri.

He has also mentioned that in his relationships he always maintains a subservient role. And people whom he thinks he can't get, he gets easily attracted to."

After Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar wants Salman Khan!

salman khan.jpg
Salman KhanMore Pics" target="_blank">More Pics
Everyone wants a part of Salman Khan. After all, the actor is known to give success after success these days. And Karan Johar is more than keen to work with the Khan.

It can be remembered that Karan Johar tried very hard - and pulled every string he posiibly could - to get Salman on his show 'Koffee with Karan'. Apparently, Salman Khan was not easily persuaded or convinced and remained faraway from both - the coffee and Karan.

Now, Karan Johar, we hear has managed to get Salman to sign on the dotted line for a film he's producing. To be directed by Rensil D'Silva, Salman, we hear, has given a nod to the project and KJo couldn't be happier.

In fact, if sources are to be believed, he's recommending many directors that they sign Salman in the lead roles if they are looking at commercial profits. Wonder how well will this act of KJo's go down with Shah Rukh Khan, who ultimately isn't a part of Karan's 'Student of the Year' film!

Karan Johar stands by Farah Khan

While Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan may have had a fallout and not working together now, one person who is a good friend of SRK's, Karan Johar, has stood by Farah like a rock through her trying times.

Today Farah is choreographing the first song in Karan's directorial venture Student Of The Year starring the three debutantes Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra.

Says a source on the sets, "Karan's Student Of The Year rolls from today. Apart from it being Karan's first day on the sets Farah also is shooting the first song which revolves around a wedding and sangeet sequence. Though SRK and Farah drifted apart in the last couple of years Karan (Shah Rukh's best friend) and Farah have remained consistently in touch. In fact Farah has always choreographed the songs in Karan's films so it was unthinkable for the filmmaker to start the film and shoot any songs without her. Karan in fact wanted her to shoot all the songs in his films but Farah is so busy with the shooting for her TV show Just Dance and choreographing songs for House Full 2 that she just didn't have the time."

The source adds that Farah and Karan are extremely fond of each other and initially after Farah's fall out with SRK though there was an awkwardness between the two, shortly after both spoke to each other and sorted out everything. "Farah, Karan and another close friend of theirs, Kaajal Anand is often at Farah's house playing board games like Trivial Pursuit along with Malaika Arora Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Rahul Khanna and designer Vikram Phadnis. They call themselves the Games Gang."

He received rave reviews for his performance in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD). And now Farhan Akhtar is being bombarded with more offers to act.

Dharma Productions. And sources say that the Dil Chahta Hai-director might just sign the dotted line. However Farhan is currently on a 20-day break and is reading scripts from other production houses.

Karan JoharAsk Farhan about Karan’s offer and he remains non-committal. “I am reading several scripts. But at this point, no film has been finalised,” he says. Despite repeated attempts, Johar remained unavailable.

A few days ago, Farhan had stated that he is keen on signing films outside his production house. “I’m in talks with a few big producers. In the past, I agreed to do films outside my production house, but nothing worked out. As long as I get a sincere and honest vibe from the other person, I’m ready to take up the offer,” says Farhan.

According to sources close to him, Farhan had avoided working with other production houses by saying that he ‘wanted to concentrate on Excel Entertainment’. But thanks to ZNMD, now it has become awkward for him to keep saying no. Farhan has also put the editing of his next directorial venture, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Don 2, on hold for these 20 days.
