Karan Johar gets a free title

(Mumbai Mirror)

Since the title for the filmmaker's next bore similarities to the 1972 film Jawani Diwani, Johar approached the original

Karan Johar found an apt title for his upcoming film, which is a story about a young couple in love. While Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, describes the film perfectly, it is also very similar to Goldie Behl's father Ramesh's 1972 romantic movie, Jawani Diwani. And so, KJo reportedly made a call to Goldie's sister Shrishti Arya to ask if he could buy the rights of the film.

According to a source the filmmaker would have had to choose an alternate title for the film, if Shrishti declined. However, the Drona producer did not object and instead gave the title away to Johar for free.

The source explained, "Shrishti had the title Jawani Diwani. Karan had added two words 'Yeh' and 'Hai' to his film's title. However, it would not have been very professional of him to get away on a technicality. And so, he spoke to Shrishti about the predicament he was in, especially since director Ayan Mukerji was keen on the title as well."

When contacted, Shrishtri said, "Haan, Karan spoke to me. He and I are close friends. His dad Yash Johar and my dad Ramesh Behl were close friends too and so, I didn't feel it was right to have him pay for the title."

Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani, which will see Ranbir and Deepika back on-screen after Yash Raj Films' Bachna Ae Haseeno, will go on floors in January 2012.

Ranbir Kapoor replaces SRK

(Upala KBR, TNN)

Shah Rukh Khan was to star in Sajid Nadiadwala's Two States based on a Chetan Bhagat's novel.

The film was to be directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. However now that's changed. The film will be produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala starring Ranbir Kapoor.

Says an insider, "Karan approached Sajid to co-produce the film." This is the first time that KJo is co-producing a film with another banner. SRK"s banner Red Chillies is almost home ground, so it doesn't count.

Karan admits, "Abhishek Varman who assisted me on My Name Is Khan and is now creative director on Student Of The Year has written a simple and fantastic adaptation of Two States. Sajid has the rights of the book and we are in discussions about an association."

Sajid confirms, "Karan and I are in talks to produce a film together. He approached me but nothing has been finalised as yet. What gives me a high is that if the marriage between the two production companies do happen, it won't be for financial reasons but pure creativity where the intention is to produce a good film."

Karan Johar directs emotional scene for RA.One

(Dibyojyoti Baksi, Hindustan Times)

Shah Rukh Khan, who is leaving no stone unturned to ensure his multi-crore fantasy film, RA.One’s success, is believed to have almost donned the director’s hat too.

For an emotional sequence in the multi-crore film, the producer and lead actor was all set to step behind the camera, but it washis good friend, director Karan Johar, who eventually stepped in to bail out Shah Rukh and called the shots.

RA.One’s director, Anubhav Sinha reveals, “There was a big action sequence with 50 cars being blown up. The shoot got extended beyond the scheduled two days. So, the next set was getting postponed, and if we didn’t start it on time, the whole schedule would have been disturbed.”

Sinha adds that he asked Shah Rukh to take over the second shoot, so that both of them would direct at two sets simultaneously, with the director shuttling between both sets to ensure that work progressed smoothly.

Finally, Sinha suggested bringing Johar on board: “I asked Shah Rukh if we could request him to help us out, so that I wouldn’t need to shuffle between both sets. And Shah Rukh was confident that if he requested his friend, he’d definitely agree to come on board.”

Agneepath music not typical of Karan Johar

We all know Karan Johar is working on the remake of Agneepath. This is what he has to say about the music of the film," Dharma productions is known for the soulful music in its films. But this time we needed to bring in dhan dhana dhan kind of music which will match the film. I am extremely thrilled to fulfil my father's long cherished dream. He wanted to make this film in a commercial way." There is a refreshing Ganpati number which stands apart from the usual KJo kind of tracks. In fact it was Hrithik Roshan, who plays Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, who gave the idea to have loud music which creates an impact on the screen. He thought that KJo style of music would not be right for an action packed film like Agneepath .

I got a shock when I saw myself: Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt admits he’s never been happier in his life. “Having Manyata as my wife is the best thing that could have ever happened,” he smiles contentedly. Interestingly, at a time when he’s finally at peace, the star has just shot for a “totally dark” character in producer Karan Johar’s
Agneepath.

“I was spellbound by the way Karan (writer-director Karan Malhotra) conceived his Kancha Cheena and happy that I was getting a chance to show people what I was capable of as an actor. But I also wondered how I could play someone so chillingly evil,” he admits.

Shrugging off all comparisons to Mukul S Anand’s Agneepath (1990), Sanjay says that this film is “more earthy, raw and grounded”.

He also points out that while Danny Denzongpa’s Kancha Cheena had hair, his head is clean-shaven. “We’d earlier thought of going in for prosthetics but when we reached Diu it was so hot that the make-up started to melt. That was a problem because it took three hours to put it on and two hours to take it off. So, I decided to go bald. And when I looked into the mirror after my session with the barber, I got a shock because I’d never had a mundan (tonsure) even as a child,” he says.

Sanjay’s twins, Shahraan and Iqra, were confused by their dad’s new look too but they quickly got used to it.

“Now they are wondering why small, prickly hair have suddenly sprouted,” the actor laughs, adding that he would drive down from Diu every Saturday to spend the weekend at home.

“It was a long ride after a physically gruelling schedule but the children are too young and I didn’t want to disconnect with them for 60 days,” he reasons.

The first look of Agneepath was unveiled with Salman Khan’s Bodyguard last Friday and received an overwhelming response.

The trailer on the Dharma Productions channel on YouTube got over 60,500 hits in 48 hours, making it one of the five most-viewed last week.

Also, it was trending on other websites with the khalnayak (villain) grabbing eyeballs.

Co-star Hrithik Roshan is confident that Sanjay’s Kancha Cheena will be as unforgettable as Mr India’s Mogambo.

That draws a smile, “Well, Mogambo and Sholay’s Gabbar Singh are my all-time favourite bad men.”

Cannot direct films which have violence: Karan Johar

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is donning producer's hat for Agneepath, a remake of his father Yash Johar's 1990 film of the same name, says he himself can not direct a script which has violence.

"All thanks to Karan (director Karan Malhotra) - he has made vengeance look beautiful. For me, if given the opportunity to direct the film, I would not have been able to....I am incapable of doing it. I have done only one moment of action in my films which was in `Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' where Amitabh Bachchan slaps Hrithik...that is the only violence I have ever done in my films," Johar told reporters here, after unveiling the first `teaser' of the film.

"We have violence in this movie again with Hrithik, but this time it is little more. It is overwhelming for Dharma Productions to have done something like this since my inception with `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. With `Agneepath' it was all Karan(Malhotra)'s vision," he said.

Malhotra, former assistant of Karan's who is making directorial debut with the film, where Hrithik is reprising Amitabh Bachchan's iconic role -- Vijay Deenanath Chauhan.

'Agneepath' will take you by surprise: Karan Johar

Those who have been expecting a frame-by-frame copy of the 1990 movie Agneepath will be surprised to see a lot of new angles and characters in the film’s remake Agneepath.

“Agneepath is not a remake because it is a tribute,” Karan Johar told reporters in Mumbai at the launch of the new version's trailer.

Though the movie stars Hrithik Roshan as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan and Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena, Johar says there are a lot of new characters in the plot.

“The basic plot of Agneepath is the same, and the character sketch of the protagonist, Vijay (Hrithik) and antagonist Kaancha Cheena (Sanjay) is the same, but we have built new angles to it, and have added new characters to the script as well,” he said.

The movie stars Priyanka Chopra as Hrithik’s love interest though her character is not similar to the one played by Madhavi in the original film. Likewise, Mithun Chakraborty’s character from the original has been chopped out in the remake.

Slated to release on January 13, the new Agneepath also has Rishi Kapoor in a negative role.

Karan Johar said that making Agneepath was an emotional decision for him as the original movie was produced by his father Yash Johar.

Watch: Trailer of Karan Johar's 'Agneepath'

The first trailer of new age remake of Agneepath was revealed on Monday. Directed by filmmaker Karan Johar's former assistant, Karan Malhotra, 'Agneepath', a remake of the 1990 Hindi film is reportedly radically different from the original film.
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's look in the much-awaited remake of 'Agneepath' was recently revealed. Johar posted a link of Agneepath's trailer and its launch ceremony on Twitter.
The original 'Agneepath', directed by Mukul Anand, starred Amitabh, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, Rohini Hattangadi and Danny Denzongpa; and was produced by Yash Johar, Karan's late father. Though the film failed commercially at the box-office, Bachchan's performance was praised. Bachchan and Chakraborty received National award for Best Actor and Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award respectively.
The remake version will see Hrithik reprising Bachchan's iconic role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, while Priyanka Chopra would be the female lead. The character essayed by Mithun Chakraborty has been totally done away in the remake and the role of villain played by Danny Denzongpa is being essayed by Dutt. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor will play another negative character. The remake version hits cinema houses on January 13, 2012.
Kapoor apparently gave a look test for the first time in 20 years for Agneepath. The release date also happens to be close to Hrithik's 38th birthday, which will fall January 10.

'Agneepath' Not A Remake, But Tribute: Karan Johar

The makers of Hrithik Roshan starrer Agneepath, a remake of the 1990 Hindi film, insist the film is not a remake and that he pays homage to the original cast

"The name of the film of course is same Agneepath, the characters of the original protagonist and antagonist are called Vijay and Kancha, which is also same. But there are lots of differences also. It is a tribute...Homage," producer Karan Johar told reporters here today.

"I don't want to call it a remake as I feel it is misused. I would rather call it a tribute," he said after unveiling the first teaser of the film.

Directed by debutante Karan Malhotra, the movie stars Hrithik, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra and Rishi Kapoor in pivotal roles. The movie is produced by Johar under his banner Dharma Productions.

Agneepath has some old characters like that of Vijay being played by Hrithik and Sanjay essays the role of Kancha. There are some new (characters) also. There is no Krishna Iyer's track in the film. The character being played by Rishi Kapoor was not a part of the original film. Even Priyanka and Hrithik's love story is different than the original one," Malhotra said.

"The basic plot of revenge remains same, the story starts and ends in Mandva village. There are certain changes that needed to be made in the film," he said

'I inspired Karan to host his talk show'

Claims Simi Garewal who interviewed the filmmaker for her TV show
Simi Garewal had a special guest on her show Simi Selects India's Most Desirable, and this time it was another talk show host, filmmaker Karan Johar. The shoot took place at Film City recently.

Says Simi, "You can imagine what happens when two chat show hosts get together. The conversation would just not end.

Ten years ago, I had Karan and Kajol as guests on my earlier show. Later, Karan launched his own talk show. People perceive us as rivals, but there is nothing like that.

In fact, I was Karan's inspiration to host the show on the same channel."

The KJo episode, which will be telecast September end, has the director-producer groove to Sheila Ki Jawani and Munni Badnam Hui. "Karan is an amazing dancer.

He has got that rhythm in him. People will be shocked to see his jhatkas. He grooved to the item numbers to the hilt and bought the house down," informs Simi.

The real person
According to her, Karan has been very honest on the show.

"People will get to see the real Karan. His mother (Hiroo Johar) has stated that people think that he is always the laughing, joking person. But that is a fa ade. The real Karan is far from this."

On asked about the constant whispers about his sexual orientation, he apparently said, "I really don't care what people say. Whether homosexual, metrosexual, hetrosexual or whatever, it does not affect me."

Adds Simi, "He counts Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan as his closest friends. He has a lot of respect for Gauri.

He has also mentioned that in his relationships he always maintains a subservient role. And people whom he thinks he can't get, he gets easily attracted to."

After Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar wants Salman Khan!

salman khan.jpg
Salman KhanMore Pics" target="_blank">More Pics
Everyone wants a part of Salman Khan. After all, the actor is known to give success after success these days. And Karan Johar is more than keen to work with the Khan.

It can be remembered that Karan Johar tried very hard - and pulled every string he posiibly could - to get Salman on his show 'Koffee with Karan'. Apparently, Salman Khan was not easily persuaded or convinced and remained faraway from both - the coffee and Karan.

Now, Karan Johar, we hear has managed to get Salman to sign on the dotted line for a film he's producing. To be directed by Rensil D'Silva, Salman, we hear, has given a nod to the project and KJo couldn't be happier.

In fact, if sources are to be believed, he's recommending many directors that they sign Salman in the lead roles if they are looking at commercial profits. Wonder how well will this act of KJo's go down with Shah Rukh Khan, who ultimately isn't a part of Karan's 'Student of the Year' film!

Karan Johar stands by Farah Khan

While Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan may have had a fallout and not working together now, one person who is a good friend of SRK's, Karan Johar, has stood by Farah like a rock through her trying times.

Today Farah is choreographing the first song in Karan's directorial venture Student Of The Year starring the three debutantes Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra.

Says a source on the sets, "Karan's Student Of The Year rolls from today. Apart from it being Karan's first day on the sets Farah also is shooting the first song which revolves around a wedding and sangeet sequence. Though SRK and Farah drifted apart in the last couple of years Karan (Shah Rukh's best friend) and Farah have remained consistently in touch. In fact Farah has always choreographed the songs in Karan's films so it was unthinkable for the filmmaker to start the film and shoot any songs without her. Karan in fact wanted her to shoot all the songs in his films but Farah is so busy with the shooting for her TV show Just Dance and choreographing songs for House Full 2 that she just didn't have the time."

The source adds that Farah and Karan are extremely fond of each other and initially after Farah's fall out with SRK though there was an awkwardness between the two, shortly after both spoke to each other and sorted out everything. "Farah, Karan and another close friend of theirs, Kaajal Anand is often at Farah's house playing board games like Trivial Pursuit along with Malaika Arora Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Rahul Khanna and designer Vikram Phadnis. They call themselves the Games Gang."

Paris Hilton to sip 'koffee' with Karan

Paris Hilton who is all set to visit India next month, will also make an appearance on Karan Johar's popular show Koffee with Karan, reports a news daily. The filmmaker-host would be making an exception for Hilton as the fourth season of the show has already been wrapped up.

He has spoken to the producers and they are more than happy to grab the opportunity.

Johar Reportedly, the hotel heiress wanted her interview to be special and asked her agents to look for an appropriate show. Since Karan Johar's Koffee with Karan is one of the biggest celeb shows in India, Hilton's agents contacted Johar.

However, there is no official statement so far.

If this works out, it would be the first international celeb appearance on Karan Johar's Koffee with Karan.

Karan Johar wants Farhan Akhtar for his film

He received rave reviews for his performance in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD). And now Farhan Akhtar is being bombarded with more offers to act.

Interestingly, the name on the top of that list is Karan Johar. The director-producer has apparently offered him a film under his banner,
related stories

Dharma Productions. And sources say that the Dil Chahta Hai-director might just sign the dotted line. However Farhan is currently on a 20-day break and is reading scripts from other production houses.

Karan JoharAsk Farhan about Karan’s offer and he remains non-committal. “I am reading several scripts. But at this point, no film has been finalised,” he says. Despite repeated attempts, Johar remained unavailable.

A few days ago, Farhan had stated that he is keen on signing films outside his production house. “I’m in talks with a few big producers. In the past, I agreed to do films outside my production house, but nothing worked out. As long as I get a sincere and honest vibe from the other person, I’m ready to take up the offer,” says Farhan.

According to sources close to him, Farhan had avoided working with other production houses by saying that he ‘wanted to concentrate on Excel Entertainment’. But thanks to ZNMD, now it has become awkward for him to keep saying no. Farhan has also put the editing of his next directorial venture, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Don 2, on hold for these 20 days.

Deepika Padukone replaces Katrina Kaif

Deepika Padukone has fired yet another salvo at arch rival Katrina Kaif. She has bagged Karan Johar's home production directed by Ayan Mukerji opposite her ex boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor.

Katrina was originally signed for this film that is supposed to go on floors in November 2011. However Katrina is meant to giving the very same dates to Yashraj Productions for a film with Shah Rukh Khan that is being directed by veteran Yash Chopra.

It is said that even before the dates had been worked out Kat reportedly leaked out the news to the pressthat she was in Ayan's film opposite Ranbir because she wanted to grab some quick headlines. Then Kat realised she was in a fix over the dates, so Deepu who has been dying to open her accout with Dharma Productions and was also dying to get back together with Ranbir on screen has stepped in.

For the last few days Deepika has been preparing ground for her film with Ranbir. She has using the Aarakshan platformto constantly say--`I have no issues working with Ranbir.' The reason is simple. Deepika has known for more than a week now that she is in the one in Ayan's film with RK Junior. However she was keeping the news close to her chest because she had not signed the dotted line. A trade source says, ``Now it's official. Deepika will romance Ranbir.''

Kat has been left out in the cold or perhaps when it came to making a final choice Kat preferred Shah Rukh Khan

I have always loved Sanjay Dutt: Karan Johar

In a scenario where villains are dominating the imagination of the Indian cinegoer, Sanjay Dutt - who plays the antagonist in Karan Johar's remake of Agneepath - stands tallest.

The Bollywood khalnayak, who turns 52 today, has apparently deciphered the mutiple layers of this new version of the Agneepath baddie giving him a rustic touch, leaving his producer KJo and director Karan Malhotra completely astonished.

Says KJo, "I have always loved Sanju and known him since I was five. I will get to our professional equation later, but first I must start with our personal relationship. Our fathers (Yash Johar and Sunil Dutt) were good friends. Sanju used to call my father buddha uncle because dad had salt and pepper hair and was partially bald very early in life. Just the other day I was over at his home for dinner and I met his two adorable kids Shahran and Iqra. Sanju was telling his son to call me buddha uncle! It was a very nostalgic moment."

Shifting gears, Karan talks of Agneepath, a film that has brought the two of them together for the first time. Says he, "When I approached Sanju for the film, there were no questions asked. He didn't ask for a script; no modalities were discussed. It was blind trust. Sanju is all heart and I'm touched by his implicit faith in my banner Dharma Productions and me."

Revealing how the protagonist Vijay (played by Hrithik Roshan) and the antogonist Kancha (Sanjay) are completely different in this 2012 verison, Karan says, "I have seen the rushes and I must tell you that Hrithik and Sanju are just terrific together. Sanju has intepreted Kancha with a rustic tonality and a panache that is hard to describe. The result will be there for everyone to see when the film releases on January 13, 2012. We will all emerge victorious."

According to Karan, Sanju's Kancha avatar is like no other bad man ever seen in a Bollywood film. "The texture he has brought to the character is something unusual," he smiles.

Wishing Sanju a Happy Birthday, Karan says, "He is one of the most amazing guys I have known. He is the baba of the Hindi film industry and I hope he stays the way he is - all heart and no guile."

Karan Johar geared up for a K3G sequel

Ten years back Karan Johar had made a star-studded family drama and called it 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'. And now the director is all geared up to make a sequel to the film with a little persuasion from Amitabh Bachchan.

Karan Johar intends to get the original cast of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham for the sequel too. But will Shah Rukh and Amitabh be ready to share screen space again? There has been an evident cold war brewing between the duo since last year and they've been vying to grab media attention ever since. Big B had put up the falling TRP listings of SRK's TV show on his blog. On the other hand Shah Rukh announced his world tour, 'Temptations Reloaded' when the Bachchans were all set to commence their global musical tour called 'The Unforgettables'.

Secondly, will Hrithik be cheerful to play lover boy to Kareena after a gap of eight years? The two had purposely avoided acting together due to rumours of their alleged relationship during the filming of some of their films. They were last seen together in 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon'(2003). Recently, Kareena even refused to do a cameo in Hrithik's 'Agneepath' remake.

Lastly will Kajol take a break from motherhood and leave her new baby to get into films again? Guess only time will tell.

Johar announces to a tabloid that Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 is a workable idea and it would indeed be a bold step to make the film. The director is pretty confident that he would be able to convince his actors to come together again. While Amitabh Bachchan is already on board the other actors have still to give their nod.

The original movie about an adopted son who is estranged from his father touched the hearts of the Indian audience. The movie was a blockbuster in India and was termed a big hit overseas as well. 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' was easily the sixth highest grosser worldwide in 2001.

The sequel is rumoured to be another family saga giving the conflict between two brothers more prominence. Amitabh Bachchan spoke about seeing the legacy of the Raichand family going ahead in his blogs. He revealed the angle the film would supposedly take. "It would be a story on the growth of the brothers and the problems that arise because of their independent understanding and working of the business empire of the father, a split within them and so on..."

Karan Johar takes inspiration from Delhi Belly

Karan Johar is known for his family sagas full of emotion, drama and songs.

But all that is about to change. The man who is a year away from turning 40, plans to get naughty by making a sex comedy on the lines of Delhi Belly. "I'd love to make a film like Delhi Belly. It's awesome," admitted KJo.

Inspired by none other than Aamir Khan, the filmmaker is all set to now produce a raunchy comedy. And no, the Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham director isn't kidding.

However, the man known for his prim and proper family films has his own conditions before he makes a film so removed from his image of being sober. He wants Aamir Khan to help him with the venture.

"I can only do a raunchy comedy if Aamir Khan helps me. I don't think I can pull it off on my own. I don't have the confidence to pull it off. It's a writing victory all the way. And couldn't be possible without Aamir's backing," said the filmmaker. And what's more, the filmmaker is willing to wait Aamir. "All the edgy humour, language, sex jokes...nowhere did I feel uncomfortable watching Delhi Belly.

I've felt far more uncomfortable in other so-called comedies. I fell off my chair with laughter," said Karan. And that's when the thought of making a film on the lines of the Aamir Khan production struck the man.

Wonder how good friend Shah Rukh will take this piece of news.

Salman Khan refuses Karan Johar's film

Karan Johar's dream of doing a solo film with Salman Khan stands unrealised as of today.Post Dabangg, Karan and so many others have been wooing Salman to do a solo hero projectfor their banner.

Karan Johar wants to cash in on Imran Khan

Karan Johar seems to have delayed the release of his film 'Short Term Shaadi' to bank on Imran Khan's rising popularity.

Karan Johar's film Short Term Shaadi starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor is more of less ready. However the filmmaker, who is known to declare the release dates of his films much in advance, is far from deciding one for this film. The reason seems to be Imran Khan.

No the young Khan is not giving any grief to KJo. In fact Johar is trying to 'bank' on Imran's rising popularity. It's not like Karan Johar needs to make any efforts to find a distributor for his film. However trade sources insist that it's a smart business move on the part of Karan Johar.

So far Imran Khan has been in news but his films after Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na haven't really been huge success. Be it Kidnap, Luck, I Hate Luv Storys or Break Ke Baad , his films have never been blockbuster material. Perhaps that should change after Delhi Belly and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan .

"Imran Khan's Delhi Belly seems to be hot property with the immense buzz surrounding the movie. The film should undoubtedly get a record-breaking opening", says a trade source on condition of anonymity. "Then there is Yash Raj Films' Mere Brother Ki Dulhan where the fresh pairing of Imran and Katrina should again attract audiences. So, Imran Khan's market value is sure expected to rise after these two films". So Karan Johar could get a better deal with the success of these two films of Imran Khan and so he seems to have pushed Short Term Shaadi in November.

Smart decision, we must say!

Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra to pair up again!

Priyanka Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan
Priyanka Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan More Pics
Shah Rukh Khan has given Tarun Mansukhani a new task, after the director directed a few scenes for his home production Ra.One. Now that Dostana 2 is on hold, the D2 director will pen a fresh script for SRK and Priyanka Chopra. Since the suggestion came from Khan, Mansukhani was more than happy to jump at it.

A source reveals, "For now, there's a complete stalemate over the Dostana sequel. Tarun has finished writing the sequel but producer Karan Johar is not happy with the second half. After many rewrites, Mansukhani has now given up. Anyway he is committed to do a film with Karan's production house, the PC-SRK film might just be the thing. Dostana released in 2008, and the director has been raring to start his second film, and has kept himself busy directing commercials."

SRK opined that since Dostana 2 was on hold, Tarun should come up with something featuring PC and him. The source adds, "SRK has already had a chat with Karan and has expressed his desire for the Dostana director to come up with a subject for the pair."

While details on the project are not known, the source confirms that Tarun is quite excited with the prospect of writing a plot for them. "He has already shown interest and will begin work on a script."

No film with Shahrukh Khan on Haj: Karan Johar

Producer-director Karan Johar is surprised by reports about films that his banner Dharma Productions is making.

It's been reported that Karan has bought the rights of a National Award winning Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu. Buzz was that Karan will direct the film with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead and the film will be shot in Haj.

However, Karan, who is in London with his mother, flatly denied the reports. He said, "I am not planning the remake of the acclaimed Malayalam film." Further revealing the reason behind his London trip, Karan said, "I am in London to acquire the rights of a superb French film. If all goes well the French film will translate beautifully into an Indian love story. I can't wait to get it going."

The filmmaker is scheduled to attend IFFA soon and announce the release date of Agneepath. Karan is also gearing up to go behind the camera once again after two years with his home production Student Of The Year.

KJo, Advani kiss and make up

Filmmaker Karan Johar seems to be in a good mood these days. First, he made up with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and now talks have it that the KJo has made up with Nikhil Advani, his protege whom he had fallen out with.

If sources are to be believed, Karan and Nikhil are taking each others help for their respective movies. Advani is all set to begin his 3D animation movie 'Delhi Safari', and a little assistance for Karan is proving to be useful.

As long as Karan is in the make-up mood, one wonders if he's going to step forward and hug long-time foe Ram Gopal Varma, too! Well, crazy things happen is this big mad world...

KJo to launch 'X-Factor' winner

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who buried the hatchet with Sanjay Leela Bhansali when he recently visited the sets of " X-Factor", has decided to give the winner of the music reality show a chance to sing for one of his forthcoming films.

The filmmaker, known for movies like "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" and "My Name Is Khan", has tied up with Sony Entertainment Television to give a worthy platform to the winner.

The host of the show, Aditya Narain, broke the news to the top 12 shortlisted contestants on behalf of Karan - much to their excitement.

Karan praised "X-Factor", saying it is by far the best talent show and all three judges - Sonu Niigam, Shreya Ghoshal and Bhansali - are doing well. He was also heard saying that Bhansali is one of the "finest directors" of Bollywood, according to a source.

In fact, Johar and Bhansali even hugged each other - suggesting that they have moved on after their war of words.

Bhansali had taken a tad too seriously Johar's comment on "Saawariya" being a "blue film" and had lashed out against him in the media.

Johar reacted by saying in an interview: "Anyone who chooses the media as a form of communication is clearly not a friend. I think he needs to learn to take himself a lot more lightly than he does. It will be a good thing for him."

But now, all seems to be well between the two - at least by what seemed on the sets of the reality show.

KJo gives Agneepath a miss!

The producer gives Agneepath a miss for want of cooler climes.

Karan Johar has dodged a heat wave. And no, it's not a controversy that he is avoiding! Following Sanjay Dutt's advice, the filmmaker has decided to stay back in Mumbai, instead of attending the filming of his ambitious project Agneepath, in Diu, due to the city's scorching temperatures.

Unfortunately, Dutt, who plays Kaancha Cheena, and director Karan Malhotra cannot afford such a luxury like the producer, if the film is to go as planned.

Our source told us, "The unit of Agneepath is shooting in terrible heat. The Gujarat-Maharashtra border region is always very hot. The unit is shooting in Diu as the storyline does not permit compromises on the location.

So, when Karan Johar decided that he should visit the sets of his film, Sanjay Dutt warned him about the terrible heat. Karan finally decided against going to the location."

A source close to Karan said, "Karan is definitely not going to Diu. Karan is used to going to exotic locations like London and USA, he definitely would not enjoy the weather there.

When Sanju warned him about the heat, Karan decided that it's better he stay put in Mumbai and wrap up pending commitments."

While Karan remained unavailable for comment, Dutt said, "I did not tell him not to come here, but yes I did tell him about the terrible heat. Its 47 degrees, afterall." When asked how Dutt himself is managing with the harsh weather, he simply said, "Karna hi padega na yaar."

Sanjay Dutt hires helicopter for Agneepath

Apparently Sanjay Dutt is so homesick that he flies back every evening from Dui to Mumbai in a chopper to be with his twins.

An actor alighting from a hovering chopper is a scene trademark of Karan Johar's cinema. Remember Shah Rukh Khan's entry sequence in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghum ! This time however, it is a behind-the-scene from a Karan Johar film.

Sanjay Dutt who is presently shooting for Karan Johar's remake of Agneepath in Diu is using a helicopter to travel to the shooting location. "Sanjay Dutt plays the negative lead in the film and is reprising Kancha Cheena's character (played by Danny in the original). The Mandva village from the original is being recreated in Diu where the film is currently being shot", says a source associated with the film.

Apparently Sanjay Dutt is homesick and so he flies back every evening to Mumbai to be with his twins. "Dui is around 3 hours drive from Mumbai. Since driving isn't a viable option, Sanju Baba has hired a chopper for his to-and-fro visit to the sets", confirms the source.

Incidentally Hrithik Roshan, who plays the male lead in the Agneepath remake, had used the same mode-of-transport while shooting for Jodhaa Akbar at ND Studios in Karjat. He used to fly back to the city in his chopper to avoid the long journey time and the city traffic.

Karan Johar being extra cautious with Agneepath

To keep the paparazzi off the sets of Agneepath, the filmmaker has tripled his security men, adding to the production cost

Knowing that a picture is worth a thousand words, the media including Mumbai Mirror (April 19) had sneaked in and captured the lead actor Hrithik Roshan in midst of a dahi handi sequence on the sets of Karan Johar's remake of Agneepath.

And this has worried KJo no end. Being extra cautious about the look and feel of this much ambitious project, the filmmaker has come up with an idea. He has increased the number of security personnel on the sets to ensure that such a leak doesn't happen again.

In fact, if you were planning to infiltrate and catch a glimpse of the new age Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, you now have to go through thirty big men, the extra bouncers, who, have naturally added a few more lakh to the production cost.

KJo has even instructed his brand new bouncers to keep people from clicking pictures on the sets from their phone cameras.

A source close to the unit revealed, "Well, we had ten guards on the sets before. We now have thirty. So about twenty new guards have come in. And they are all from a professional group."

"Karan is a marketing genius. You can call him a methodical planner. He likes to market all his films in planned phases.

So, he was upset when the media leaked out the pictures of his dahi handi shoot.

It should not have happened. But it's okay. Jo ho gaya so ho gaya. Ab aage aisa nahin hona chahiye," added the source.

Karan Johar remained unavailable for comment.

Karan Johar pens 'perfect' role for buddy Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan's role in the next Dharma Productions' film Student of The Year being directed by Karan Johar has finally been written. The film has been in the writing for a long time because Karan could not sketch the SRK character well enough.

In the recent FICCI Frames Convention, Karan realised the ability of his superstar friend when he scored more brownie points than Hugh Jackman. This made him quickly write down the character sketch of his hero.

Karan also ensured that Alia Bhatt-Mahesh Bhatt's younger daughter and Varun Dhawan-David Dhawan's son have a great co star to work with. Looks like Karan wants his film to strengthen his relationship with other prominent camps in Bollywood.

No SRK, Karan wants Salman!

The last time Salman Khan worked on a Dharma Productions' film was in the college love saga Kuch Kuch Hota Hai way back in 1998.

After thirteen years, a bad fight with Dharma loyalist Shah Rukh and a couple of comeback hits Wanted and Dabangg, the original bad boy of Bollywood seems to have got a second chance with Karan Johar's production house.

The ice probably broke when KJo asked Salman to be a part of his talk show. The actor agreed to do so for a price, they had to make a donation to his foundation. Though the filmmaker denied paying up for a celebrity on his show back then, he approached the Khan for the next Dharma venture to be directed by Rensil D'Silva.

Considering KJo's association with his favourite Shah Rukh and Salman's disassociation with the King Khan, this piece of news should have been surprising. However, with the filmmaker stretching his professional interests beyond his favourite Khan with Varun Dhawan starring in his next directorial venture Student Of The Year, the filmmaker approaching the other Khan becomes understandable.

According to a source, "After Kurbaan, Rensil is directing a fantasy-action caper on the lines of Ocean's Eleven. When Karan Johar heard the script, he absolutely fell in love with it. Both Karan and Rensil felt Salman was perfect for the main part."

However, even after repeated attempts, Rensil D'Silva remained unavailable for comment.

Anushka Sharma to romance Ranbir Kapoor?

Current Bollywood heartthrob Anushka Sharma may well be seen romancing Ranbir Kapoor in Ayan Mukerji’s next. So far, it was assumed that the female lead would be played by Ranbir’s ex-flame Deepika Padukone.

This will be Ayan Mukerji’s second film with Ranbir, he has previously directed Ranbir in the off-beat coming of age comedy Wake Up Sid. Like the previous outing the next film is to be produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

For a while it was assumed that the female lead would be played by Deepika who is also close friends with Ayan, and was also close to Ranbir, then after their much public break-up, Katrina’s name was floating around as the one likely to play the lead. Now, with things not looking too well between Ranbir and Katrina, it does seem apt to consider another.

There is no confirmation from Ayan or Anushka Sharma about this development, and the producer of the film Karan only confirms that Ayan will finalize the actors once the script is ready.

Ranbir and Anushka surely would make for a good on-screen couple.

Dostana’s endless dastaan

This is one endless dastaan. After the success of Dostana, Karan Johar and writer-director Tarun Mansukhani had announced its sequel. However, there has been no final word on when and if it shall finally see the light.

But an associate of Karan has now revealed that the sequel is on track — as well as the reason for the untoward delay. “Karan knows just how valuable the franchise is,” the source says. “The problem was that Tarun wasn’t able to come up with the final script. However, he has now made some progress.”

Earlier as well, there were rumours that Karan’s dissatisfaction with Tarun’s script had led to the delay. In fact, Karan had even contemplated shelving the film altogether. But Karan now denies that was ever the case. “I admire Tarun for saying that he wants more time to work on the film,” says KJo. “He knows that after the first weekend, it’s the screenplay that will do the talking. He can’t rely on the franchise value of the film, so he is working hard.”

Subtle warning or friendly advice?

KJo tries a new look for Hrithik

While Amitabh Bachchan sported kohl in his eyes for the menacing look in Agneepath, in Karan Johar's remake of the same flick, Hrithik Roshan will not. Says a source, "Though Hrithik's look is closely guarded in Agneepath, his make-up (done by Vijay and Robin Slater), is a cool, contemporary edgy one with moustache and stubble. Though his character doesn’t wear kajal or kohl in his eyes, Hrithik looks equally intense and menacing. In fact, he has never looked better!"

Amitabh Bachchan's make-up artiste, Deepak Sawant (who has worked with Bachchan since his first film Saat Hindustani) reminisces, "When Mr Bachchan did Agneepath we had originally decided to put kajal in his eyes. But after a few scenes, it started smudging and didn’t look good so we decided to use kohl instead."

KJo to adopt child

I would make a good father, and my mother (Hiroo Yash Johar) will definitely make the world’s best granny,” asserts producer-director-fashion designer-TV anchor Karan Johar, who wants to adopt a baby soon. “Not rightaway because several projects have been green lighted by my production house and as producer and director, I will be on my toes in the coming months. So I’ll only bring home a child to hand over to a nanny when most of these projects are wrapped up and I have time to breathe.”

An emotional Karan points out that he’s been shouldering the responsibilities his father (filmmaker Yash Johar) left him when he passed away four years ago. So, his adoption plans had to take a backseat. “But Junior Johar will be along soon,” Karan promises.

He admits that till a few years ago, it was too stressful for a single parent to adopt a child, but now Karan is confident of giving his child the right upbringing with plenty of love. “I want to see this baby grow up in front of me,” he says. “Gender is not an issue. Girl or boy, this baby will be part of me.”

What about a mother for his child? A few days ago, the rumour mills were buzzing about the filmmaker tying the knot with the Band Baaja Baraat actor Anushka Sharma. That draws a laugh, “The whole industry knows that marriage and I don’t go hand-in-hand. But someone spread the word around as an April Fools’ joke and some jokers were fooled. I don’t ever want to get married. I can be a father and a mother to my baby. And if I fall short, my mother is there to help me out.”

No Koffee for KJo, Salman

Karan Johar is shooting his finale episode of Koffee With Karan. And it won't be Salman Khan as planned. KJo has decided that much as he wants the actor on that couch, he doesn't want to pay him to be a guest on his chat show.

Says a friend of the filmmakers, "He is happy to give any amount of money to Salman's charity, but he doesn't want it to be a condition for him to come on the show.

Karan Johar, Vandana Melwani to tie the knot ?

According to the latest reports, famous film director Karan Johar is all set to tie the nuptial knot with Vandana Melwani

New York based Vandana Melwani is a family friend of Johar and is 31-year-old.

The buzz was first reported by a movie portal.

Howecer, Karan is mum over the piece of news. When he was asked to comment on this he did not refuted the report as rumour instead he said ‘no comments’.

Well, Should we take ‘no comments’ as a confirmation Karan?

Earlier, there was a rumour that Karan was dating television queen Exta Kapoor.

Karan Johar is son of famous film producer Lt. Yash Johar. Karan has given some smashing hits to the Bollywood like, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gam, Kuch Kuch Hota Hain and My Name is Khan.

He also hosts a famous talk show Kofee with Karan.

Salman to appear in KJo's show

Karan Johar is wooing Salman Khan. And has succeeded to an extent. It is learnt that the actor has agreed to be part of Karan's TV show in its third season.

The last time KJo asked him to sit on the infamous couch, the actor said he would do it only if he was given Rs 50 lakh for his charity foundation. The My Name Is Khan director told him that the channel wouldn't pay but he would be happy to shell out the money from his own pocket. However, the talks fizzled out.

Now KJo who is shooting the final few episodes for this season, asked Salman for the last time if he would appear on the show, and the temperamental actor said he would do it, and also gave temporary dates for the shoot, either 30th or 31st March. Apparently, Karan and the channel have donated over Rs 50 lakh to Salman's charity foundation. Incidentally, no other guest on the show has been paid for making an appearance.

According to sources, the filmmaker has also offered a role to the actor, which he is considering. This is interesting because so far Khan who lives in Galaxy has been wary of Karan because of his friendship to the Khan who lives in Mannat. Now that the director has managed to get Sallu to say yes to the show, and a 'maybe' to the film, next step is a patch between the warring Khans? Let's hope so.

Why is no one having coffee with Karan?

TV Channel will have to resort to re-runs, as Johar ponders over who to invite for the last few episodes of this season

Koffee with Karan, the popular television chat show is in a bit of a crisis. About five episodes are still left to be shot for this season, but there is nothing in the bank to fall back on. Insiders blame Karan Johar's constant visits to New York that has pushed them behind schedule, but sources reveal that Johar is also out of ideas on whom to invite for the few remaining shows.

The channel which hosts the show might now play re-runs of episodes.

According to a source in the film industry, the problem of not having enough episodes shot beforehand has arisen out of two reasons.

The source said, "It isn't only because of Johar's frequent foreign visits. He has also brought together almost every conceivable pair of guests on the show. When he invited Amitabh Bachchan, he got daughter Shweta to come along. And when Madhuri Dixit came on the show, she was paired with Sonakshi Sinha. But now Johar is out of ideas. He can get anyone he wants. But he is unsure of how to make them appear fresh and untried on the show."

Sources reveal that after Johar got Ajay Devgn to appear on the show, he is convincing Salman Khan to make an appearance. Dharmendra is apparently being wooed to come along with Hema Malini. Imran Khan and his wife are likely to be guests too in what will be their first interview as a couple.

"I'm not confirming any names till I have recorded episodes with them. Yes, I went to NY and we ran out of episodes. But I have a life beyond Koffee With Karan. I have a script to write and a film to direct. There will be some re-runs till I record fresh episodes," Johar said.

Meanwhile, Johar's frequent visits to NY have sparked off rumours that he is dating someone in the city. When asked Johar said, "Yes I have a secret love in NY. I love the city itself. Nowadays I romance places not people."

The director also confirmed that he will take a break from the chat show for at least two years. "I'm done with Koffee and my other extra-curricular activities for now. In case people have forgotten, I'm a filmmaker."

Has Ayan ditched Ranbir for Shahid?

Rumour has it that the director is planning a film with Shahid, instead of best friend Ranbir

Is Wake Up Sid director Ayan Mukerjee working with Ranbir 'Sid' Kapoor again or is he making a film with Shahid Kapoor? It's the most talked-about dosti in the film industry after Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. Mukherjee, hitherto known as Kapoor's best friend, is now being seen with Shahid. The buzz is that Mukherjee has decided to direct his next film, with Shahid instead.

An actress who is close to Kapoor agrees. "Who has the time to cultivate friendships without a professional agenda? Do you think Shah Rukh and Karan would have time for each other if they weren't working together?"

Mukerjee was present for Shahid's birthday bash two weeks ago. "They go out for movies and hang out in each others' homes," a source added.

Kapoor, who was shooting for Rockstar in Kashmir the past few weeks, is oblivious of the developments. A friend of his said, "Ranbir is not sentimental or possessive about his friends. If Mukerjee chooses to work with another actor, Ranbir is hardly going to sit and mourn the loss."

Karan Johar who is producing his protege Mukerjee's second film, is blase about the director's new dosti. "Why read hidden agendas into every relationship? If Ayan is hanging out with Shahid, they could just be bonding without work on their mind. As far as I know Ayan's next is with Ranbir. Until Ayan tells me otherwise, I've no reason to think his plans have changed."

Imran Khan will sport two hairdos for his next

Imran Khan will sport two hairdos for his next film Short Term Shaadi with Kareena

Imran Khan will adopt two new looks in a movie for the first time in Karan Johar's Dharma Production flick Short Term Shaadi.

Imran sports a formal look in the first half of the film while the look in the second half is funky

A source said, "Imran plays a rigid, conservative and fussy architect in the film who falls in love with Kareena Kapoor, a liaison which changes him completely.

Kareena plays a hairstylist who teaches him about life and love. The film has been shot in Las Vegas and India and will be directed by Shakun Batra."

The looks

The source revealed, "In the first half, Imran has slightly longer, gelled back hair. It's a formal classic hairstyle with longer sideburns and side parting something Imran has not done before.

In the second half, Imran goes for a funkier and cooler look similar to I Hate Luv Storys."

Kareena the stylist

According to sources, Kareena had to learn some hairstyling for her role in the film so that the on-screen sequences did not look fake and Imran would always sportingly agree to whatever she wanted to experiment on him.

"She learned some hairstyling from her stylist (Pompy)," informs Imran.

While, in the film, Kareena styles Imran's hair, in real life and for all his films, it's his good friend Ayesha who has done the look.

"Ayesha has been styling my hair ever since my first film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. She has worked on both my looks in Short Term Shaadi too."

Imran was excited about the looks he is donning for the film.

He said, "The film takes place in a compressed time frame of a little more than a week and deals with how my character changes within that short span of time."

"In the first half, my character is prim, proper and very fussy about the way his life should be.

I wear starched, neatly ironed outfits and formal three-piece suits with polished shoes. My hair is always neatly combed.

Kareena enters my life and gives me a cool makeover and a different, spicier hairstyle. She comes into my dull and drab life like a breath of fresh air and makes me see things differently," he elaborated.

Katrina to star opposite Ranbir in Ayan's next?

Rumours suggest that Ayan Mukerji has signed Katrina Kaif opposite his best friend Ranbir Kapoor in his next film under Dharma Productions.

According to a source, Katrina and Ranbir have been frequenting Ayan's residence in Santacruz. Even as Ranbir got busy shooting in Kashmir for Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar, the source says that Katrina has been catching up with Ayan quite regularly.

So, don't be surprised if this hot couple features in yet another film together.

Abhay is furious, not doing Dostana 2

Abhay Deol has declined to work opposite Katrina Kaif in the Seeta Aur Geeta remake. He was offered to play Dharmendra's role in the film but he chose to bow out.

Meanwhile, we also learn that Abhay is not doing Dostana 2. Apparently, he spoke to Karan Johar over a year back and had politely declined the offer but somehow the news has come that he, Dino Morea and Riteish Deshmukh are in the race for a tiny role in KJo's glossy film.

Abhay, who is any day a better actor than Dino and Riteish, is apparently upset that his name is being pitted with these two actors who hardly have any box office standing.

Karan Johar flies to New York

Karan Johar needs inspiration for his next film and he has taken a flight straight to New York.

We hear that he will be in the American city for a month to finish his script before heading back to Mumbai. KJo has been regularly doing this over the years for his directorial ventures.

He feels he gets to concentrate more when he is out of the hustle and bustle of Mumbai.

(TOI)

Will KJo allow love to blossom?

Hote hote pyaar ho gaya! And yet again, it's the star kids in the thick of action. Inner circles of Bollywood are abound with gossips around Alia Bhatt (Mahesh Bhatt's daughter) and Varun Dhawan (David Dhawan's son) to be an item. Even though the first shot of their debut movie STUDENT OF THE YEAR is yet to be canned, sources claim that the two indeed have eyes only for each other.

Says an industry observer, "It looks like the Karan Johar effect, what with people either bringing their love on the sets or already being in love with each other. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor enjoyed their courtship period with KURBAAN. Later Sonam Kapoor and her director Puneet Malhotra too were said to be have got rather close to each other during I HATE LUV STORYS."

One wonders though how a new love story would be written on the sets of STUDENT OF THE YEAR, the shooting of which would kick start in Summer 2011. Since Karan always strives to have a comfortable fun filled working environment on his sets, he can well be expected to go easy on the love birds.

"Unlike Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is dead serious about his cast and their conduct when he launches them (remember how he ensured a certain discipline in place during SAAWARIYA, the launchpad of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor?), Karan is far more easy going," he continues, "As long as Alia and Varun are delivering the desired results, he won't be having any issues with the relationship they carry in their personal lives. He is the last person to be involved in any such personal matters."

One wonders though what the other lead in the film, Siddharth Malhotra, currently thinking. After all he is missing out on all the action which is currently surrounding Alia and Varun.

KJo's next is desi Glee?

Student of the Year is inspired by musical Glee
PS: And SRK's playing Schuester

Karan Johar is directing his first film with newcomers Student Of The Year. Naturally there is excitement about the project, which promises to be different from his other films that have been big star studded affairs.

It has been reported that the film is along the lines of the American tv show Glee, which is a current rage. Here's looking at the similarities between the two.

Glee
Set in - a high school
Lead actors - debutant teenagers chosen from auditions
Song choices - cover versions of popular songs from the past
Star Power - Guest appearances by Britney Spears, Gwyneth Paltrow
Musical coach - Matthew Morrison plays Will Schuster who teaches them music
Romance track - has multiple love triangles happening between the cast
Dance numbers - every episode has a dance song, which is a stand out track

Student of the year
Set in - a high school
Lead actors - newcomers making their debut
Song choices - will have popular numbers from the past
Star Power - Kajol, will be making a small role in the film
Musical coach - SRK playing the professor who teaches them music
Romance track - will be a love triangle between Varun, Siddharth and Alia
Dance numbers - actors will go through dance routine rehearsals before shoot

What's different
While Glee is an all out musical, SOTY will use the theme of a musical as its backdrop. Also unlike Glee, Karan's film won't have the plot progressing through musical numbers. Instead the songs will be shot in the style of a musical.  They will stand out in the film and be in keeping with what's popular and  current.

Rishi Kapoor as college professor

Soon one can see the yesteryear chocolate hero in new character…. After donning variety of reel characters, veteran Rishi Kapoor will play the role of a college professor. And the movie is Karan Johar’s forthcoming production ‘Student Of The Year’.

Now if one can relate to Rishi-Karan’s cold war that stemmed from Joahr’s chat show, then it’s surprising that Kapoor gave his nod to the project.

For the records, there was a huge amount of friction between Chintuji and Karan over Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor's disparaging remarks about Ranbir on his chat show. However, sources revealed, now matters have been sorted out. Not only that, Rishi has also agreed to be a part of Johar’s ‘Agneepath’ remake.

According to sources, Rishi’s role in ‘Student Of The Year’ was written with Mr Amitabh Bachchan in mind. But things didn’t fall in place and Karan offered the professor’s role to Rishi.

Well, an adorable professor is on the way, folks….

Shah Rukh in KJo's next

In our report dated November 29, 2010 on Karan Johar launching Mahesh Bhatt's daughter in his next film, we told you that SRK was likely to play a cameo in the film. Not only will SRK co-produce KJo's film Student Of The Year, he will also play a significant role in the film.

In fact, Karan, who is taking a monthlong break to go overseas and finish the script of this film, plans to work on SRK's character.

So all rumours about KJo working without his best friend Shah Rukh Khan for the first time in his next directorial, can now safely be put to rest.

Our source said, "Rumours about SRK acting in KJo's next had been doing the rounds but Karan's constant silence about the film started giving people the impression that SRK was only planning to produce the film. But actually, both SRK and Karan are co-producing the film, which will launch newcomers Varun Dhawan , Siddarth Malhotra and Aaliya Bhatt. SRK will play the role of one of the professors in the college. The role will not be limited to a cameo; it will be full-fledged one."

Apparently, a perfect outline of Shah Rukh's character in the film will only be ready by the time KJo returns from his month-long trip. We sent a text message to Karan but he chose not to reply.

Karan Johar reveals his future plans

Maintaining a good pace and going steady, Karan Johar has definite plans to build his empire. Though his production house may not have been as prolific as corporate houses like UTV or BIG Pictures, he has a definite vision in place.

"Most of the directors who have made their first film with me and now busy working on their scripts to kick start their next with my production house", announces Karan who has given break to close to half a dozen film makers already, "Ayan Mukherjee (director of WAKE UP SID) will make his next immediately. His script will be ready in a month's time. Puneet Malhotra (of I HATE LUV STORYS) is also into scripting. As for Tarun Mansukhani (DOSTANA), he is neck deep down into ensuring that the script of DOSTANA 2 is double the fun. He wants to take the film to the next level."

While these three directors would be making their second film with Karan, another debutant director who is currently raring to go is Karan Malhotra. He would soon be getting his Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra starrer remake of AGNEEPATH on floors.

"That's right", confirms Karan Johar, "AGNEEPATH is one prestigious project for us. We can't surpass geniuses like (director) Mukul S Anand, Amitabh Bachchan and (producer) Yash Johar who made AGNEEPATH the way we see today. It is quite ironical though that when the original AGNEEPATH released 20 years back, it wasn't even a commercial success. All we can do is to make an attempt that honours a film which has a cult standing today."

Here is looking forward to your vision taking a good form Karan.

Ajay gets candid over a Koffee With Karan

Koffee was the beverage that got the usually reticent Ajay Devgn to spill the beans on not just his movies, but also his life with Kajol, making for one steaming hot episode of Karan Johar's chat show.

The Big D got candid about how Kajol wasn't interested in him when they first met, and how she's now come a long way from the girl who couldn't care less to being a jealous wife.

But while the much married actor appears to be loving the state of matrimony, his advice to B-Town It Couple, Saif and Kareena, was not to get married - a comment he later dismissed as a joke.

We usually get to see Ajay Devgn's lighter side on the big screen and we're thrilled at the chance to catch a glimpse of it closer to real life. The episode is sure to be one of the highlights of Koffee With Karan's current, very controversial season - that is, as long as it's not subjected to a heavy job.

Ajay Devgn, KJo make up over coffee

Ajay Devgan and filmmaker Karan Johar had some candid conversation...

There was news that Ajay Devgn didn't fit well in the KJo-SRK camp, and in fact didn't even approve of it. But hatchets seem to have been buried...

Apparently, Karan Johar was eager to have Ajay Devgn on his show ' Koffee with Karan' as a guest, and had extended an invitation to him even last season and the season before last as well. But Ajay Devgn declined the offers. However, Karan Johar extended an invitation to him once again to appear on his chat show this season, and Ajay Devgn has gladly accepted.

So it was only recently that the two bonded over coffee on KJO's chat show. It has been learnt that Karan was keen to have Kajol and Ajay Devgn together on his show, but Kajol reverted that she was busy with mommy duties, but did mention that she would try and get her hubby Ajay to participate on the show.

Ajay wasn't too comfortable with the 'controversy-creating' format of the show. Also, he is an introvert and not very media savvy. However, Kajol and Karan together convinced him that they wouldn't indulge in gossip, but rather concentrate on his 20-year successful career in the industry.

Ajay proved to be a great guest on Karan's 'Koffee with Karan'. In fact, even Karan noticed that Devgn had a brilliant sense of humour, and insists that the Rapid Fire round is one to watch out for.

Sonakshi to accompany Madhuri at Koffee With Karan!

It is every Bollywood actresses’ desire to share the couch with the dancing diva Madhuri Dixit.

This was best seen when Karan wanted an actress to accompany Madhuri Dixit on his celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan.

Karan told a tabloid “I can’t say I’m amazed by Madhuri’s popularity. When I decided to invite her on my show I didn’t know that her popularity seeps down right to the youngest of Bollywood.”

Buzz is in the air that ‘Dabangg’ girl Sonakshi Sinha may be the lucky girl to accompany Madhuri on Karan’s show.

Hrithik - Priyanka to get 'passionate' in Agneepath

You've never seen them like this before. Unprecedented sparks are going to fly between 'passionate' Priyanka Chopra and 'intense' Hrithik Roshan in Agneepath.

Says a source, "Hrithik and Priyanka don't believe in half-measures. If they've to convey intense feelings and passion they will go the whole hog in Agneepath. If in Krissh they romanced innocently keeping the kids in mind, their togetherness in Agneepath will be for Adults only."

The camaraderie between Hrithik and Priyanka is so palpable that Karan Johar gets a sense of deja vu. As a child, on his father Yash Johar's sets of Agneepath in 1990, Amitabh Bachchan and Madhavi shared the same easygoing bum-chum bantering and witty vibes as Priyanka and Hrithik.

Says a source, "Karan was just a teenager when his father had produced the original Agneepath. He still remembers the fantastic rapport between Mr. Bachchan and Madhavi. That relationship, Karan and his Agneepath remake's director Karan Malhotra felt, needed to be developed. The Hrithik-Priyanka bonding in the new Agneepath will build on the relationship that Karan had seen between Mr. Bachchan and Madhavi in the original Agneepath. The love story would be the core of the film."

When asked about the Hrithik-Priyanka rapport, Karan Johar said, "All I can tell you at the moment is that Priyanka is not playing a nurse like Madhavi in the original and she is not playing prostitute either. Yes we've built on the relationship shown in the original film between Amit Uncle and Madhaviji. The new Agneepath is first and foremost an intense love story. There was love between Priyanka and Hrithik in Krissh. But here we want an unparalleled intensity between them. You've never seen Priyanka and Hrithik get so intense with anyone before."

Composer duo Ajay-Atul to do music for Karan Johar's Agneepath remake

After announcing new actors for his banner, it is time for new music composers to enter Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

The Marathi music composing brothers Ajay and Atul Gogavale who shot to fame with their Marathi compositions Natrang have hit big-time in Bollywood.

They have now been signed up by Karan Johar to do the music for his new-age remake of Agneepath. The sound captured for Agneepath is expected to be very different from what we normally hear in the films today.

Explains Karan Johar, "We wanted a sound that resonated what the composing maestros Laxmikant-Pyarelal had done in my father's production of Agneepath. With due respects to the composers today, I don't think anyone giving state-of-the-art music could've done the sound we wanted."

It was Riteish Deshmukh who introduced Karan to Atul-Ajay.

Says Karan, "I loved Atul-Ajay's music in Natrang. The minute my Agneepath director Karan Malhotra and I heard their music, we knew this is what we were looking for. Atul and Ajay will do to this new Agneepath what Laxmikant-Pyarelal had done to my father's Agneepath. The music has the same epic quality with huge orchestral sounds, etc."

This is first time that Karan Johar is working with a new team of music composers. It's part of his plan to rejuvenate the film industry with new talent.

Some of the songs for the new Agneepath have already been finalized.

Speaking on behalf of both the brothers Atul Gogavale says, "When Karan Johar asked us to do a new kind of sound in the Laxmikant-Pyarelal tradition, we immediately knew what he wanted. We've seen the original Agneepath at least a dozen times only to absorb the music of Laxmikant-Pyarelal. We've already locked in three tunes. And the very special thing about our music in Agneepath is that we're composing an entirely separate theme for the protagonist Vijay Deenanath Chauhan's character."

New kid on the block: Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt is Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter with Soni Razdan. She will make her debut in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year which will release later this year.

This is Karan Johar’s first film post My Name is Khan and the only film in which Shah Rukh Khan does not have a leading role. He might do a cameo in it, though. The film will be a launch pad for Siddharth Malhtra, Varun Dhawan, and Alia Bhatt. Shooting begins in June. Alia is already dating her co-star Varun Dhawan.

Alia and Varun met during the casting and got along well. Alia is new to Dharma while Varun is a regular at the production house and has also assisted KJo on My Name is Khan. They hit it off from the first day and are now dating and getting to know each other before shooting begins.

Alia is seventeen-years-old and loves to watch movies and television shows and listen to music. She is Pooja and Rahul Bhatt’s step-sister. She is on Twitter but does not tweet often and follows only her family members. She gets cranky if she does not sleep enough. She likes partying and is friends with Akanksha Ranjan, y\the younger daughter of Anu and Shashi Ranjan, among others.

Nothing is known about her role in the film but one can guess that the movie will be like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. While KKHH had two girls and one guy, SOTY has one girl and two guys fighting over her. It is a campus romance which should be out by the end of this year.

Hrithik shoots back at Salman

On his 'happy' birthday a few days ago, Hrithik Roshan was truly exultant.

He seemed to be blissfully content and in a mood to forgive and forget, which is why he reacted to Salman Khan calling him a "child", in an oddly calm tone. Hrithik said, "Salman must have said it with affection. And I don't think there is anything wrong in being a child," (Mumbai Mirror, January 10, 2011).

But things are not always what they seem on the surface. Hrithik's passivity was, as it appears, only a garb. Recently, Hrithik and his wife Sussanne shot with Karan Johar for an episode of Koffee with Karan.

On the show, Hrithik shot back at Sallu by saying, "Salman thinks that the world is conspiring against him, but that's not true. We all love him." He further added, "I don't want to use this as a medium to comment on Salman."

Naturally, a few things between the two actors are still not over and buried. We wonder what Sallu has to say about Hrithik's latest comment but unfortunately, both Duggu and he did not revert on this. Call it instinct, but Sallu just might. So, watch this space for more.

'Student Of The Year' Couple are already dating each other

Debutant co-stars of Karan Johar's 'Student Of The Year' are already dating each other, even before their shoot begins

B-Town is filled with tales of co-stars falling for each other while shooting for their first screen pairing together.

However, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan who make their debut in Karan Johar's Student Of The Year, hit it off even before shooting began.

The two met during casting and liked each other almost immediately and are now seeing each other.

While Varun has been a Dharma regular and even assisted Karan on My Name Is Khan, Alia is a rank newcomer. Even though their first encounter was awkward, things changed when they started reading for the film.

A source says, "Both come from filmy families.

Alia is Mahesh Bhatt's daughter and Varun is David Dhawan's son. They started off by getting to know each other's families.

Also, since Alia is much younger to Varun, he was naturally protective of her. During the narration and first introduction, Varun kept making sure she was comfortable with him."

Both have a common interest in the latest music and movies. "They would often end up discussing the latest TV shows and movies for several hours.

Varun is a chilled out guy and Alia enjoys his company. They have a close group of common friends who they hang around with."

The shoot of the film begins in June and Alia and Varun are making sure they get to know each other better before they face the camera.

"One of the reasons they have been bonding is also to break any ice before the actual shoot begins. The two were spotted together in Bandra a couple of times on their way to scene rehearsals."

Was KJo supposed to make 'A for Apple....'?

Karan Johar's next directorial venture would be 'Student of the Year'. However just before this announcement was made, there was speculation in the air that his movie was supposed to be titled - hold your breath- 'A for Apple, B for Boy, C for Cat'.

"Omigawd, were people really speculating that to be the title of my next movie," said KJo in disbelief when told about the story which had made the rounds.

On being told that this was indeed the case, he laughed uproariously for full one minute before catching hold of his breath.

"Puhleeze, there have been rumours around my films and there would be rumours in months to come as well. But this one is the weirdest of all. Come on, 'A for Apple...'? They can't be serious. Any more of this and K for Karan will definitely go for a toss", he gets cracking here.

Now a rumour like this could possibly have been started by one of those overzealous media types who wanted KJo to blurt out the real name of his next movie. However the smart man would have none of it.

"Well, I would for sure want to meet the person who actually invented this title. Hats off to his/her creativity," smiles Karan before signing off.

Well, we too would want to know more about the source here Karan. After all it isn't everyday that you come across such a title.

STUDENT OF THE YEAR : 'K.K.H.H.' meets 'Mohabbatein'?

Pic postted by Karan on Twitter - Johar will be launching Mahesh Bhatt's daughter Alia Bhatt, David Dhawan's son Varun Dhawan and another newcomer Siddharth Malhotra in the movie.

Ever since Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar launched their new venture STUDENT OF THE YEAR last week, industry people and even those on social networking websites are busy speculating the plotline of the film. Rumours are rife that the film, which stars three newcomers in the lead, is the present-day version of Karan's own KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and Aditya Chopra's MOHABBATEIN. But Karan rubbishes the rumours, "Not at all! There's no KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI or MOHABBATEIN in this one. Not a moment, not a dialogue, not a scene. It's a completely new script."

There's talk that SRK will enact a significant role in the film, although the news is being kept under wraps. "Shah Rukh has undertaken the biggest responsibility of producing the film with Dharma [Karan's production house]. It was very magnanimous of Shah Rukh to step forward to produce the film with newcomers. If we don't do it, who will? As far as Shah Rukh's screen appearance is concerned, I wouldn't like to commit anything yet. He has been an integral part of my films and will always be," Karan states.

"My resolution for 2011...get rid of all kinds of excess baggage...emotional and my cluttered closet!!! Why pile up when you can unfold," Johar posted on his Twitter page.

He will hopefully get back to direction in the coming year, and has wished everyone "Big love and happiness in 2011!!!".

Rishi Kapoor back in KJo's 'Agneepath'

Rishi Kapoor is all set to do an important role in Karan Johar's remake of Agneepath.

Rishi's return to the film means that all is now well between Karan and Rishi Kapoor after a spat over the comments Deepika and Sonam made on his casanova son in Koffee With Karan.

Our source said, "Rishi was always supposed to do the role. However after the Deepika-Sonam episode on Koffee With Karan, Rishiji walked out of the film.

He was extremely upset with Karan and thought that he was the one who instigated the girls to make catty remarks on his son Ranbir. Following this controversy Rishi Kapoor walked out of Agneepath. However, during a recent police show, both Karan and Rishi met and when Karan went up to Rishiji everything was fine.

They hugged each other and made up. Now Rishiji is back in the film and the role will be one of the biggest highlights of the film."

In an earlier interview to Mumbai Mirror, Rishi Kapoor had said that he is not going to do Agneepath and that he would not be comfortable. Now all that is the past. Text messages sent to Rishi Kapoor and Karan Johar went unanswered.
