Kareenas spirit in Kurbaan Hua video

While shooting for a music video for Kurbaan on Tuesday, at first, director Rensil D’Silva and Saif Ali Khan decided that Kareena was not needed for the video. But later when they felt the need for her presence in the video, Saif came up with a unique idea and suggested to Rensil that she could be part of the video at least in spirit.

Earlier, Rensil was very clear that he only and only wanted Saif in the video. They shot for the song at Mukesh Mills in Mumbai. It was conceptualized and choreographed by Rensil and Bosco respectively. It is different from the usual music videos and is not at all flashy. It features Saif and the background dancers in spiritual poses and the video is more spirit than body.

Shooting for it reminded Rensil of his early days when he used to shoot music videos. The shoot went on fine until they realized that Kareena was needed. That’s when Saif came up with his idea and Rensil used some of Kareena’s most dramatic shots from the film as passing images in the background. Both Saif and Rensil agree that it has made a great difference to the video of 'Kurbaan Hua'.

Kareena and Saif to meet George W Bush to discuss world terrorism

For a couple that is often touted as the desi Brangelina, Saif and Kareena seem to be giving new reasons to keep the comparisons alive and kicking with each passing day. Following the foreign couple’s footsteps closely, Saifeena will now be seen taking up the cause of terrorism with none other than former US President Geroge W Bush in a one on one discussion here in the capital.

With their film, ‘Kurbaan’ - centered on world terrorism, all set to release, the move may seem like more of a marketing gimmick but the couple is quick to defend all such claims.

Talking to a news daily, the lovebirds raised their concern about the present terrorism scenario. As for speaking at the conference goes, Saif is already ready with his list of pointers while Kareena plans to be spontaneous.

Talking about the conference, Kareena told a news daily, "I`m a very spontaneous person. It`s like that with my acting. It would be like that when I meet Mr Bush. Jo dil mein hai woh bolungi. By now, I`ve gained enough confidence to be able to speak at such summits with some amount of confidence. Nowadays, you can`t afford to have your head buried in the sand. You have to know what`s happening in the world around you."

Now that’s the way to go gal!

Saif-Kareena in the shoes of Shahrukh-Tabu

The much-hyped film Kurbaan would star Shahrukh Khan, Tabu and Sanjay Dutt if Karan Johar went ahead with his plan seven years ago. However, he went on to do other projects, and the film eventually went to Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi.

Karan revealed that he wanted Shahrukh, Tabu and Sanjay to play the lead roles with Nikhil Advani as the director. The film was named Kaal then. On narrating the story to Rensil D’Silva, the screenplay he prepared turned out into a different film all together. Thus born the title Kurbaan with Saif and Kareena in the lead roles.

Karan left Kurbaan behind after he went on to make films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham in 2001 and later produced Kal Ho Naa Ho

Katrina: I’d like to do a film for Dharma Productions

The babe is roosting at the helm of cine field these days, grabbing attentions and offers as well.

Started off as a straight faced model in ‘Boom’, Katrina Kaif set her career straight instead by the way she performs and choice of movies. While her ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ is going to hit the screens next Friday, the trailers of ‘De Dana Dan’ too look promising.

Katrina Kaif seems to have worked with some of the laudable filmmakers. However if one goes over her portfolio, Katrina doesn’t have a movie yet with Bollywood’s favourite banner or with Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra. Said Katrina,

Karan thinks out of the box. On the one hand, he makes a 'Dostana' and then a path-breaking film like 'Wake Up Sid'. Naturally, I’d like to do a film for his banner. Likewise, working with Adi is a pleasure. He has a young unit and they work with clockwork precision. Doing a film for them is being on a school camp, but completely result oriented.

Hmm, hope the gori catches her dreams soon!

Bruna Abdullah To Star In Karan Johar’s ‘I Hate Luv Storys’

Brazilian model Bruna Abdullah is getting ready to make her Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s I Hate Luv Storys. The film also stars Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor.

Bruna who made her Bollywood appearance in the item song Rehem Kare, in Anubhav Sinha’s Cash, was offered the role after Dia Mirza declined the cameo. Dia apparently rejected the role as she was already doing a cameo in Karan’s other film, Kurbaan. Director Punit Malhotra who was looking for a new face for the role finally settled on Bruna.

Bruna has started preparing for the cameo role. She is concentrating on improving her diction and dialogue delivery. The news of the actress for the role was confirmed by Bruna’s manager at first but later denied.

Vivek sidelined by Saifeena but he hasn't said a word!

The promos of Karan Johar's production Kurbaan, starring Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, and directed by Rensil D'Silva, have already created a furore.

The steamy promos, sizzling with mind-blowing chemistry between the real-life couple, are creating hype for the film - which is great for the business. But, few people noticed that Vivek Oberoi is also a part of it. He, in fact, plays a pivotal role in the film.

Vivek is barely seen in the promos and though he talked about the film during its shoot, post the promos he has gone mum.

Now either he is in shock about being sidelined or he already knew it would be so with Saifeena being hot property.

Maybe he's quiet because he knows the film might do a lot of good to his career? Well, we are happy he isn't going over the top either way.

I’m over and above box office today: Karan Johar

Never mind that his production house Dharma Productions has just delivered a big hit in “Wake Up Sid”. Director-producer Karan Johar says he has matured over the years and box office collections are no longer the only driving factor for him.

“Frankly, I am over and above box office today. With age and some dose of maturity coming in, I truly believe that I have grown as a filmmaker and hence I am not just looking at crores out there,” Karan, 37, told IANS in an interview.

Karan has half a dozen films lined up for release in the months to come. After “Wake Up Sid”, debutant Rensil D’Souza’s “Kurbaan” is next. He is also speeding up Tarun Mansukhani’s animation flick “Koochie Koochie Hota Hai” and “Dostana 2″.

Siddharth Malhotra’s “Stepmom” remake is already on floors while debutant director Punit Malhotra’s “I Hate Love Stories” is in pre-production stage. Newcomer Karan Malhotra has been entrusted with directing an “Agneepath” remake.

Karan’s own directorial venture “My Name Is Khan” would be releasing in early 2010.

With so many projects in the pipeline, is it really easy for him not to think about box office collections?

“I guess numbers just get lost after a point in time while the quality of a product is remembered. I have learnt that the remembrance a film gets is far more important than what you end up gaining in the first weekend.

“A living example is ‘Wake Up Sid’. Yes, it opened well but what is even more heartening is that it is still being loved and watched weeks after its release. That excites me,” said Karan.

His claim comes with enough validation here. After the mega Diwali weekend that saw “Blue”, “All The Best” and “Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna” fighting for screen space, “Wake Up Sid” was kept on hold. The Ranbir Kapoor-Konkona Sen Sharma-starrer did have two bountiful weeks.

Karan is happy to be following the mantra of making quality films without worrying much about the cash register.

No wonder many first-time filmmakers working with him are happy to be in an environment that challenges and motivates them to make something worth remembering.

“I never ask my directors to give me a film that would fetch me Rs.80, 100 or 120 crore. Once you do that, you only end up putting pressure on the poor guy. Instead, I want them to focus entirely on the subject in front of them and leave the box office in the hands of audiences.

“This is what Ayan Mukerji did with ‘Wake Up Sid’ and look at how he has passed with flying colours, both critically and commercially,” said Karan with a tone of appreciation.

Karan Johar returns to TV

Karan Johar a Yash Raj loyalist will follow the Big Daddy of films as YRF makes its way to the small screen. Karan is no newbie to TV as he has hosted many a show on the small screen and once again Karan returns as host for a Yash Raj reality show on Sony.

Yash Raj films which is making its foray into television is all set to produce some fiction and non- fiction shows for Sony TV. Tellychakkar has been giving you regular updates about all their shows.

The latest we have heard is that Yash Raj’s new reality show called Mera Sabse Bada Fan Banega Mera Hero is lined up for Sony TV. It is claimed that this show will be one of the biggest shows ever seen on television.

A source says, “When Yash Raj came up with the idea of this show it was decided that Karan Johar would be part of the show. And as soon as Karan was offered the show he agreed immediately”.

All that is known is that the show will have 26 known names of Bollywood but the concept of the show is still not clear. It is believed that the show will focus on weird fans of Bollywood actors and actress who will be contestants in the show. Kabir Khan’s Camera Art is the line producer of the show.

Rafiq Gangjee, Vice President- Marketing and Communications, Yash Raj Productions said, “Yes, Karan is hosting a reality show for Yash Raj and the promos of the show are currently on air. The show is all about what Karan is saying in the promos and it promises to be one of the most entertaining shows ever seen.”
We also contacted Danish Khan, Marketing Head of Sony but he remained unavailable.

There are promos currently on air where Karan is asking people to come for the auditions which begin from November 1. The shooting of the show is expected to start by the end of November.

Karan Johar: I prefer first time film makers

There is something about first time film makers that excites Karan Johar. For his production house Dharma Productions, most of the directors chosen by him are those who are making a film for the first time. Ayan Mukerji has given a successful WAKE UP SID, Rensil D'Souza seems all set for a success with KURBAAN while Tarun Mansukhani, who gave a HIT last year with DOSTANA, is making two more movies for Karan - animation flick KOOCHIE KOOCHIE HOTA HAI and DOSTANA 2.

"That's the 'mantra'", says Karan in an unabashed tone, "I prefer first time film makers to work with me as there is certain hunger in them. They want to succeed and it's the freshness in their approach which makes the entire experience of making a film all the more exciting. I am happy with this strategy so far and don't want established film makers."

This is the reason why entire 2010 would see Dharma Productions unleashing one film after another, all of which would have a first time director at the helm of affairs. Other than Karan's own MY NAME IS KHAN, there would be Siddharth Malhotra coming up with STEPMOM remake, Punit Malhotra making his debut with I HATE LOVE STORIES and Karan Malhotra beginning work on AGNEEPATH remake.

How does the director in him, who has been making films for 11 years now (Karan made his debut with KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI in 1998) keep away from the temptation of giving 'creative inputs' with so many newcomers at the helm of affairs?

"You have to believe me when I say that I allow them to make their own films", he smiles, "Eventually if I come in their way and do everything then what's the point? In that case neither them nor me would ever have objectivity of the work that we do."

Kareena dares to bare for Kurbaan

Although Kareena thinks it is much ado about nothing, "Not once did I feel awkward while shooting any scene for the film. It's always easier to shoot for romantic and passionate scenes with someone you are dating, because of the comfort level.

Also I am very close to Rensil D'Silva (the director) while Karan is like family and I trusted them completely. I knew whatever they shot would come out very classy. And the poster proves that."

It's all symbolic
She goes on to say that she and Saif both love the poster, "Everything is symbolic including Saif's wound and my wet hair it represents passion, sensuality and emotional violence. Kurbaan is a love story with an undertone of violence a combination of love and violence. Everyone - from my mom to my sister Karisma is eagerly waiting for Kurbaan to release. It will remain one of my top three favourite films along with Omkara and Jab We Met.

Producer talk
Karan Johar says, "Kareena and Saif were very comfortable with the romantic scenes. It also helped in the passionate romantic scenes as Saif and Kareena are a couple. That helped them in the comfort zone. They are also very credible, talented and professional actors who can convey passion and sensuality with conviction. Bebo and Saif had trust in our aesthetic sense and our campaign while Rensil's vision and Rahul Nanda's (publicity designer) expertise has made it a mind-blowing poster."

Kurbaan to be released early

urbaan will be at a screen near you an entire seven days earlier! The release date for the Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer has been brought up as a wise Karan Johar has realised that it does a new film no favours to be released into the competition of a multiple release Friday. Especially when the film has cost big bucks to make!

Consequently, Kurbaan will release on November 20 instead of November 27 to avoid a clash with Priyadarshan’s Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer De Dana Dan.

Director Rensil D’Silva said, “We will be releasing Kurbaan on November 20 as no other film was scheduled to release on that day. We want to avoid a clash with any other film. Why not release solo when we have an empty slot? Clashes don’t help anyone.”

A spokesperson for UTV, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, confirmed the change of schedule and stated, “Nov 20 is a better release window as we get a clean week, clear of any competition.”

Shah Rukh Khan walks ramp, Hrithik Roshan, Jaya Bachchan cheer him up!!

When Shah Rukh Khan, the King Khan of bollywood walked the ramp for ace film director Karan Johar at the grand finale of couture week, the cheering crowd had Hrithik Roshan and Jaya Bachchan among others, making it abundantly clear who stands where in the Salman-Shah--Rukh Khan game of one up man ship.

The presence of Jaya Bachchan, one of the important members of Bachchan camp in the cheering crowd of Shah Rukh Khan, is being taken in the industry as the coming closer of King Khan and Bachchans.

Besides Jaya Bachchan, other biggies like Yash Chopra and Uday Chopra, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Kajol were also present to encourage Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan walking the ramp.

The viewers were also surprised by the cool confidence shown by Gauri Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, who was walking the ramp for the first time. But, she was not nervous at all, and in fact, showed herself to be as a cool and confident professional in her new avatar.

However, the industry was more interested in knowing who was present during Shah Rukh Khan’s show and what did it mean for the future of bollywood. This was especially so, as Shah Rukh Khan was seen to be isolated by Salman Khan when he had successfully assembled almost all of bollywood for his ramp walk at the couture week earlier.

But the presence of Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Yash Chopra clearly sent a strong message to Salman Khan camp that if need be Shah Rukh Khan can bank on the support of the first family of bollywood, the Bachchans.

The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Bachchans favor Shah Rukh Khan more out of compulsion than their liking for him. In fact, when Bachchans have to choose one of the two camps headed by Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, they would always go for SRK.

This is so despite the fact that it was Shah Rukh Khan who had snatched ‘Kaun Banega Crorpeati’ from Big B and started the long drawn cold war between two of biggest bollywood icons. The reason is obviously Salman Khan’s past relation with Aishwarya Rai, who is now Bachchan bahu, and would not approve of any relationship with macho Khan.

Manish Malhotra to direct Saif-Bebo

Manish Malhotra - the man who changed Bollywood fashion is all set to make his directorial debut. And what's more, he's roped in his good friends Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor to play the lead roles.

The film all set to go on the floors in mid 2010 will be produced by Karan Johar, again a very good friend of Malhotra.

When contacted, Manish confirmed the news saying, "Yes, its true. I am going to make my debut as a director. I will direct a film for Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and it is going to be a commercial venture. It is a very emotional subject and I don't want anyone else to direct the film. Nothing else has been planned as yet. There's still time to decide the cast and crew as it will go on floors next year."

Manish's first step into Bollywood was Swarg. He designed Juhi Chawla's costumes. He later shot to fame with Urmila Matondkar's makeover in Rangeela and Karisma Kapoor in all the David Dhawan films.

However, Manish is currently busy working for Sohail Khan's Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, Anthony D'Souza's Blue and Shankar's Enthiram.

Saif, Bebo's kiss breaks records!

Their real life chemistry would now create magic on screen. Saif and Kareena have created a record for the longest kiss on camera.

According to unit sources, Their kiss seemed to be never ending, which was filmed recently for their upcoming movie Kurbaan.

The kiss is said to be the longest between any two stars in the history of Bollywood.

It seems to be the deliberate attempt by director Rensil D'Silva, who thinks that a certain section of the sex-starved audience will come to the theatres just to see Saif and Kareena in bed.

We just hope it doesn't become another 'Choti Si Love Story'! (Remember Manisha Koirala's steamy scenes in the movie)

I've been betrayed many times: Karan Johar

It seems like Karan Johar has it all. But there is one thing that he holds closest to his heart. "The memory of the first screening of my first film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, that I showed my parents with Manish (Malhotra) and Aditya (Chopra). After the film, my parents cried, we hugged each other for the longest time, making Manish and Adi cry too. That memory is so strong that even now when any of my films are released, it comes back to me," he says.

Karan feels that emotions are taking a back-seat and the trend will continue. "Everything has become so individualistic. Forty years ago, it was all about family, but now it's all about oneself. Tell me, do we really have an icon after Mahatma Gandhi?

Even patriotism is becoming individualistic. We have lost out on the drive to look for a hero. I can see that we'll rise as a country and be in a far better condition, but there is a gradual loss of emotions. I see that happening all around me now. The con of the situation is that we are becoming more and more lonely as we seem to be worried about only ourselves."

But as far as Karan is concerned, hope floats. "I trust people blindly. I've been betrayed many times but I'll continue to trust. That's the only way to live. What you give is what you get. Just being good to other people is a religion in itself. You can't be successful if you don't have the element of trust in you. I refuse to change myself."

SC rejects Karan Johar's plea for early hearing

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to give an early date for hearing filmmaker Karan Johar's petition seeking quashing of a criminal case against him for allegedly insulting the national anthem.

Justice BN Agrawal and GS Singhvi criticised Johar for not appearing before the Lucknow trial court that had issued summons to him in the case which related to his film in a case relating to his movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.

The Allahabad high court had dismissed Johar's plea for quashing the case. He then approached the apex court seeking an early hearing of the case. "You have not been appearing before the trial court. In criminal cases, if summons are issued, you have to appear. It is for the magistrate to dispense with personal appearance," the bench observed.

Arjun Rampal: It would be nice to work with Kareena and Kajol

With WAKE UP SID doing well at the box office, it is time for Karan Johar's Dharma Productions to move on to it's next films. Out of the plethora of films which are there on the production house's plate, the one which is about to go on floors pretty soon is STEPMOM remake. And the actor who is most pleased and raring to go is none other than Arjun Rampal who has bagged yet another biggie for himself.

"It's a very exciting character that I get to play in the film and I am just raring to go. Now this is a kind of performance oriented role that I wanted to lay my hands on. Especially after ROCK ON, it was imperative that I pick and choose great roles. STEPMOM gives me that opportunity", says Arjun who is meanwhile also busy wrapping up his portions for Prakash Jha's RAJNEETI.

"It is really nice to see such diverse subjects coming my way. People are giving me responsibility and as an actor, what more could really please you? Characters that I play in RAJNEETI, STEPMOM or HOUSEFULL are performance oriented. These are great times", he adds in an elated tone.

Coming back to STEPMOM remake, he is happy to be working with top female actors like Kareena Kapoor and Kajol.

"They are both superb. I have never worked with either of them before and it would be nice to co-star in a film with them", says Arjun.

The film would be directed by debutant Siddharth Malhotra.

"His approach towards STEPMOM is quite fresh. Even though the film is a remake, it is being completely remade. I am sure it would be one of the highlight films of 2010", says Arjun who is looking forward to an eventful year ahead.
