'Agneepath' Not A Remake, But Tribute: Karan Johar

The makers of Hrithik Roshan starrer Agneepath, a remake of the 1990 Hindi film, insist the film is not a remake and that he pays homage to the original cast

"The name of the film of course is same Agneepath, the characters of the original protagonist and antagonist are called Vijay and Kancha, which is also same. But there are lots of differences also. It is a tribute...Homage," producer Karan Johar told reporters here today.

"I don't want to call it a remake as I feel it is misused. I would rather call it a tribute," he said after unveiling the first teaser of the film.

Directed by debutante Karan Malhotra, the movie stars Hrithik, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra and Rishi Kapoor in pivotal roles. The movie is produced by Johar under his banner Dharma Productions.

Agneepath has some old characters like that of Vijay being played by Hrithik and Sanjay essays the role of Kancha. There are some new (characters) also. There is no Krishna Iyer's track in the film. The character being played by Rishi Kapoor was not a part of the original film. Even Priyanka and Hrithik's love story is different than the original one," Malhotra said.

"The basic plot of revenge remains same, the story starts and ends in Mandva village. There are certain changes that needed to be made in the film," he said
